ANTLERS Hospice (XL)

Paul Silberman's third record as The Antlers was an unlikely home-brew of soaring falsetto and clanging guitars. But Hospice on Frenchkiss back in 2009 was a major piece of work - since reissued by Transgressive in the UK in its 10th year. Featuring a band for the first time, it spoke of an abusive relationship through the lens of a nurse at a hospice and their terminally-ill patient. Sonically and lyrically it felt so raw and beautiful. So when Silberman, Cicci and Lerner  arrived to play London I was expecting something a little measured and hushed. In reality it was a cacophony of anguish.
